| The
Anderson Abruzzo International Balloon Museum is the first cultural
institution of its kind in the world. The museum features multimedia
exhibits, theaters, and simulators, along with indoor and outdoor
exhibits devoted to the history, technology, and adventure of ballooning
from it’s inception to the present day and beyond. The dramatic
entry hall accommodates fully inflated balloons and features
a towering domed roof. A variety of roof decks and balconies provide
magnificent views of the Balloon Fiesta event that takes place adjacent
to the museum each fall. A launch control tower, auditorium,
café, gift shop, and administrative offices are also housed
in the facility. Studio SW has also designed the entire 385-acre International
Balloon Fiesta Park, which not only hosts the Fiesta and other ballooning
events, but many year-round sporting events as well. The park is
a model of sustainability based on a recycled water system, reclamation
of habitat, use of recycled paving, and methane gas extraction from
landfills. The park is also the future home of the National Museum
of Nuclear History & Science, designed by Studio SW, along with future
performance venues, a community center, hotel, and RV park. |
