The
Doña Ana County Government Center is a 150,000 s.f.
consolidated government building located in the City of Las Cruces,
New Mexico.
This $21M two story facility is oriented to maximize
the views of the Organ Mountains to the east, minimize the impact
of the harsh western sun and capture the natural daylight to illuminate
the interior. The design is heavily influenced by the “One-Stop
Shop” concept for the public users and utilizes wide avenue
corridors with natural day lighting from clerestory windows above.
At the intersection of the entry corridor and the main corridor is
the circular rotunda that has a large domed skylight reminiscent
of monumental government buildings.
Agencies housed in the building
include the County Manager, Administration, County Clerk, Treasurer,
Assessor, Building & Zoning, Health & Human Services, County
Sheriff’s Offices and the District Attorney’s Office.
The exterior image is reminiscent of the historic campus architecture
at the nearby New Mexico State University. The building is a contemporary
example of Spanish mission architecture.
The Doña Ana County Government Center officially opened in August
of 2006 and has set a new standard for public administration facilities
in New Mexico. The building design has a true civic presence and has
been well received by the residents of Doña Ana county as a
user friendly facility. The costumer service features have enabled
the county staff, county manager and county commissioners to report
great satisfaction of greatly improved community service. |
