Albuquerque Jewish Community Center Campus

Back to Portfolio

The Jewish Community Center Campus project is the culmination of over twenty years of effort on behalf of a dedicated group of community leaders. The project encompasses three separate facilities within a campus-like setting. The community center component houses a full-sized gymnasium, aerobics/dance spaces, weight training rooms, an auditorium, meeting rooms, administrative offices, art gallery, and a café. The site is also home to a Family Enrichment day care center and preschool, along with the Solomon Schechter Day School for elementary through middle school students. Exterior features include a 25-yard, 6 lane pool, along with soccer fields and play areas. The materials selected for the buildings include split-faced block reminiscent of hand-hewn Jerusalem stone. This highly functional, economical material provides rich texture and solid form at an affordable cost. The building masses and archways are inspired by historic Middle Eastern architecture, while the grouping of the buildings on the site recalls a sense of the communal village where generations of neighbors can meet and share their culture.
