The
LOVELACE RESPIRATORY RESEARCH INSTITUTE is a 72,400 s.f., 3-story
laboratory research facility with associated office and support space.
Lovelace Institute houses several major DOD funded medical/biological
research programs associated with bioterrorism, toxicology, gas inhalation,
bacteriological research, pharmacology, etc. This state-of-the-art
medical research laboratory facility contains 39 biomedical, forensic
and general chemistry research labs ranging in size from 600 s.f.
to 1,800 s. f. This building is a major addition to an existing administrative
facility and features a contemporary southwestern architectural style,
composed of interlocking geometric blocks producing a colorful dynamic
balance of form and massing while at once being expressive of internal
building zones. Traditional sandstone, exposed metal and stucco are
used as primary exterior materials. The building blends hazardous
occupancies with attractive public and office areas.
