The New Mexico Farm and Ranch Heritage
Museum showcases the rich, multi-cultural history of farming
and ranching
in New Mexico; from the distant past of the area’s
indigenous cultures, through the present day. Layered, architectural
design
elements reference distinct periods of New Mexico history
including a sandstone base reminiscent of Anasazi structures,
plastered
portals with wood corbels evoking the Spanish settlement
period, and a wood truss ceiling with exterior metal roof
recalling
the Railroad era. The 47-acre site includes working farming
and livestock areas, along with generous multi-purpose community
oriented areas providing a dramatic backdrop for cultural
and social events for all of southern NM.

" The Farm and Ranch Museum in Las Cruces is
a model development of the DCA, with tremendous potential for attracting
visitors to the state. It's a true living museum showing the
history of life in Rio Abajo and a landmark for the region."
