North Valley Public Library

Back to Portfolio

The North Valley Library is designed in response to the semi-rural nature of its surrounding neighborhoods. Pitched roofs, exposed timbers, and extensive woodworking, reference the agricultural character and Spanish colonial roots of the area. In addition to housing over 70,000 volumes in the main library, the project features a children’s program area, exterior courtyard, individual study rooms, and a community meeting room.

PROJECT: Bernalillo County North Valley Library
LOCATION: Albuquerque, NM
CLIENT: Bernalillo County, NM
DATE OF COMPLETION: 1993
SIZE: 14,500 s.f.
FEATURES: Library, meeting rooms, administrative offices, state of the art computer information systems.

Over the last year I have worked with Design Collaborative on two projects; the South Broadway Cultural Center and Library, and the North Valley Branch Library.
On both of these projects, Design Collaborative applied considerable architectural creativity to develop buildings reflective of the communities in which they were built. Materials were used in creative ways to extend building size and scope while working with limited funding.
