Designed in a modern pueblo style, the Sandoval County Justice
Complex is a new courts/sheriff office/administration complex in a 40,000 sf
state-of-the-art
Courthouse with three full-size district courtrooms, three related chambers,
jury deliberation and staff spaces. A central lobby is the main organizing element
and will feature a vaulted skylight. The lobby serves court administration services,
court clerk and the sheriff’s office and allows separate entries for different
agencies. The 40-person sheriff’s office is isolated from the courts activities
and features evidence storage, interview rooms, a fitness room, a training/community
room, staff support spaces (including a workout room), secure parking and administrative
offices.
Agencies housed in the complex include grade court, drug court, juvenile and
adult probation. Materials include stacked sandstone, shading portals and territorial
style trim. The building is oriented to provide spectacular views of the Sandia
Mountains from the lobby and office spaces.
