A 500,000 s.f. 2,200 bed modern direct supervision detention facility designed to provide state-of-the-art security and treatment programs for Bernalillo County. The regional jail is located in a fully self-contained 150-acre campus about 15 miles west of Albuquerque with medical treatment suite, booking/intake center, administration space, kitchen, maximum, medium, and minimum security inmate holding areas. Housing clusters are designed with rear service chases, classrooms in each pod, video visitation stations in each pod, and administrative and support spaces at the center of each cluster.
The housing clusters are designed as a modular combination of eight 64 bed inmate pods with interchangeable dimensions and structure for cell or dormitory housing. Day room areas in two story housing pods are lit from skylights and large windows into recreation areas.
The design team was a joint venture between Studio Southwest and CBL Architects.
