The Communication Center at Eastern New Mexico University in Portales, New Mexico is a new 34,000 S.F. facility for KENW public radio and television stations and the university’s Department of Communicative Arts and Sciences program.
The public broadcast component meets current and projected broadcast and production needs. Electronic Infrastructure is designed to provide maximum flexibility to accommodate new technologies in the future. The broadcast component comprises two television studios and control rooms, a news suite, a video editing suite, three radio studios and control rooms, an engineering workshop, an equipment room, a master control room, a distance learning broadcast room, a green room and administrative spaces including a state-of-the-art video conferencing room.
In order to provide a dynamic learning environment, ENMU administration chose to co-locate the Department of Communicative Arts and Sciences with the KENW facility. Faculty and student offices, classrooms, audio and video labs, a teaching television studio and an interior student commons are linked to the broadcast component at the main entrance and at the rear set storage area.
