DILCON COMMUNITY SCHOOL (Replacement Boarding School)

Dilkon, Arizona

Studio SW was contracted by LAM Corporation to provide Master Planning, Programming, Charrette, Design and Construction Administration services for a 62,000 square foot K-8 school for 307 students and an 18,500 square foot dormitory for 80 students.

The new school was designed and constructed on a fast track schedule, with design and construction targeted for completion within twenty-four months of contract award. The school is pending LEED Silver certification.

The design features flexible multi-use spaces. The assembly/multi-purpose areas consist of three spaces, the Cafeteria/Multi-Purpose space, the Gymnasium and the Music, Gifted & Talented Education Classroom. These assembly spaces are connected with large “barn door” type operable partitions. These openings provide the ability to combine them into one large assembly space that can accommodate over 2200 people for large events. These openings can be used for overflow seating or act as prosceniums for stage sets.

Classroom wings are organized into small learning communities. The library is designed as a security/control point for academic areas with student project space, computer lab and community access. The construction utilized a construction manager-at-risk (CMAR) contract.
