UNM HOSPITAL BARBARA + BILL RICHARDSON PAVILION
Albuquerque, New MexicoThe UNM Hospital Barbara + Bill Richardson Pavilion (BBRP) is a 495,000 s.f. addition to the University Hospital complex. The project is focused on a new Women’s and Children’s Hospital, New Emergency Department and New Critical Care/I.C.U. Department and associated support spaces.
The building incorporates the blending of the cultural themes of the people of NM reflected in the craftsmanship, materiality and artistry of the design. On the interior, cultural referencing includes themes with icons on each floor that celebrate creation myths /cycle of life of people and place.
The project is six stories tall and placed to the west of the existing UNM Hospital. The new hospital was designed by Studio SW Architects and consulting architects Perkins + Will.
The Pavilion had a very interactive value engineering process that was developed to evaluate various options. The objective was to balance function, operational design and construction issues with the optimum financial considerations. The result was a public project completed on time and on budget, a remarkable feat for a project of this size.
