The project consists of 72 new K-8 classrooms, and 1,800 seat gymnasium with wrestling, weight room, locker rooms and snack bar. Also planned are full dining hall and kitchen to accommodate the schools’ 1,100 students, a media center and administrative units for each school component (K-2, 3-5, 6-8).
The project design successfully integrates 178,000 s.f. of new construction to the existing campus, including 5 historic stone buildings, which are being renovated as part of the project.
The selected site and master plan design incorporates cultural components in the organization of the structures, which form a large arc that encompasses historic BIA buildings, and defines a larger, more culturally driven image of the new school identity. The new school is designed to create a strong public image while enclosing an outdoor courtyard/plaza focused on the gymnasium and media center.
The designs are highly sustainable from an energy/water conservation perspective and includes extensive day lighting, passive solar, and water harvesting features.
